Some 2008 Ford Escape models equipped with a 3.0L Duratec engine may exhibit oil leaking from the dipstick tube or the front or rear crankshaft seals.

This condition is likely due to the PCV valve freezing when the ambient temperature is below -20 degrees Fahrenheit, allowing crankcase pressure to build up.

1. Perform oil leak diagnostics as outlined in the workshop manual, section 303-00. With a black light, inspect for oil leaks at the oil dipstick tube and at the front and rear crankshaft seals.

2. If leaks are verified, order and install a heated PCV kit P/N 8L8Z-6A666-A. Instructions are included with the kit.
